2023 Poplar Island Race
Author Last Post

I posted a log of the 2023 Poplar Island Race for "Old Blue" in the Documents/Member Contributions folder. There's a GPS track laid over a Google satellite map that lets you see the course, and notes on the sailing. The log is a pdf file that you have to download.

My Garmin handheld GPS produces .gpx files that are small and easily read by Google Earth. If anyone has a .gpx file (or similar) from their race I'd be happy to add it to a group plot.

Thank you Doug and the Race Committee for pulling this off. It was a lovely day on the water.

I am working on the SpinSheet article on the race. If anyone was able to take pictures before, during or after the race please forward those to me.

Thank you,

Doug,

Thank you for your work in organizing the Poplar Island Race. It was a great light-air day for "Old Blue" and we appreciate the opportunity to sail in these shorthanded CHESSS-run races.

In your "nextSailor Results" email you mentioned the race committee of Joe Schray and Natalia Sizov. Please pass on my thanks for their incredible job at this somewhat thankless duty. They were on station ahead of time, set up a nice long East-West starting line that left no doubt for which side to cross North-South. They clearly broadcast the course and starting queues on VHF, and the horns were loud and spot on time.

This two-person Race Commitee made for a singlehander's dream in the busy minutes before the start. Thank you Joe and Natalia!

"Old Blue"

I have organized a RC boat for the May 20, 2023 race. Opened registration: https://nextsailor.com/app/page/reg_start/491, posted NOR, SI's, and Draft Class Rules.

So far we have 10 boats registered, and I expect 1 or 2 more multihull.

CBYRA sent out a message for registration on 5/15/2023.

Weather forecast so far looks to be good for a fun day of sailing, with a light breeze and possibility of showers.
