NASS Oxford Race 9/10/2022
Author Last Post

It got a bit ugly at the end with wind fizzling out, but the first hour or two was great fun!

Congratulations to Jeff, only finisher in CHESSS.

Any word on the Spin/non-spin thing? The CHESSS class is still all lumped together. Thx!

I'd eventually like to DH Bennu, but I have no solid/consistent crew that knows the boat well enough, so for now all single or dh is still on Wiggy Wiggy, and I race Bennu fully crewed, but do fly the CHESSS burgee. Just to confuse everyone :-)

Hi Julienne I see you are registered as phrf B but not chesss? Are you not short handed?

That’s great news. I was hoping to not run the spin unless it was really light air since my son Quinn hasn’t done much with it so far. Is anyone else running non spin? I don’t want to be the only one in the category, but if others are non spin then it would definitely be my preference.

edit - I added a note for non spinnaker but there was no way to change the class and we are all showing as shorthanded spinnaker. I will see if I can modify on my desktop then email organizers if that does not work.

Brian, @Brian Barone

Welcome Aboard....I saw that you have registered for the NAS Race to Oxford. The Race committee will be awarding trophies in both the CHESSS Spinnaker Class and the CHESSS Non-spinnaker Class. They are asking us competitors to edit our registrations to show either Spinnaker or Non-spinnaker. This can be done on the "Owner's Corner' Section of the site.

Per CHESSS Racing, Non-spinnaker boats are also asked to fly a white flag below their 3rd repeater class flag.

I look forward to seeing you out there.

Have a great race,

Jeff

That's fabulous Brian! Bennu will be at DiMillo's as well, with only one dog aboard. Have a great race!!

Hey Brian, Welcome!

We are aware that right now, NASS's registration page is showing the CHESSS class as "doublehanded ORC."  We have contacted them and told them that we're single and doublehanded and PHRF. They state that they're working to correct the registration page and their race documents.  Doug Ellmore will inform us when everything is squared away.

Hi folks, I just joined CHESS and am also registered for the Oxford race. Will be racing my Ranger with 13 year old son and two dogs. They don’t have any hands so I think that’s ok! I booked a spot at Dimillos marina in Oxford to avoid needing to anchor out. Hoping for an easy trip as this is the first double-handed distance sail my boy has done thus far.

Hi John,

AYC is hosting some doublehanded races that are only scored in ORC but they are not CHESSS class, they simply call them ORC doublehanded. AYC does not allow singlehanded racing anymore under any class or handicap system. However, we are receiving word that the AYC ORC racing program is not healthy and AYC may discontinue it. What happens after that, we do not yet know.

NASS Oxford however is hosting a CHESSS class under PHRF. You should be able to sign up for that with no problem if you have a PHRF certificate.

Hi Doug, I’ve been out of it for awhile. But I’m hoping to get my Mirage 236 back in the water next week but cannot tell if CHESSS division is ORC now or still PHRF? I don’t have a ORC certificate yet. Thanks, John Oliver

Bennu is in, but unfortunately running with crew. Looking forward to DH , but yet to get a good 2nd to run with. Plus my autopilot is missing a weird part, ugh.

Registration for the 67th Race to Oxford on September 10, 2022 is open. It includes a CHESSS division. I have registered REVOLUTION for the event.

The next day, Tred Avon Yacht Club is holding their Hammond Regatta. There is not a CHESSS division, put we registered PHRF N for non-spinnaker.
