Shorthanded Cruising

Cruise/Rendezvous - Rhode River 9/23/23
John Zseleczky

The next CHESSS cruise is planned for Saturday, Septermber 23-24, 2023 in the Rhode River. Most Middle-Bay sailors have probably anchored there in the past but if you haven't, it is very well protected and surrounded by woods with few houses. The view is similar to being in the Wye River, Corsica, or a dozen other Eastern Shore anchorages.

Rhode River is a branch off the North side of West River. A map with a chart inset is posted on the CHESSS website in the Documents section under "Challenges-Social". Click the "Documents" tab at the top to get there.

These rendezvous work best if you plan to arrive by 4 or 5 pm for a raft up and social hour. I'll be flying the CHESSS Burgee on my white Pearson 30 "Old Blue". We may use a larger boat for the main anchor boat but we typically break up the raft and anchor separately before nightfall.

If you are interested, please register so we have an idea of who is coming. Log in to chesss.clubexpress.com , go to the Event Calendar and click on the Sep 23 event. Then click on "Register Now" on the right.

As the date gets closer and the weather picture comes into focus we can ammend the plans as needed. Hope to see you there!

Windy.com is predicting 30 kts NE with higher gusts for Saturday Sept 23. Good luck to those sailing the Soloman's Race! I'm pulling the plug on the Cruise to Rhode River.

There hasn't been much interest in CHESSS cruises this summer. Let's talk about it at the next CHESSS meeting.
