Shorthanded Cruising

Cruise to St. Michaels 6/10/23
Author Last Post

In spite of smoke and various boat mechanical problems it looks like all four boats will make it to St. Michael's this weekend. Come if you can!

Current Wind forecast is Sat: 5-12kts SSE, Sun: 12-18 SSE

Our CHESSS Treasurer, Jeff Halpern (Farr 38 "Synergy") has registered for the cruise to St. Mike's. Jeff is in the midst of some structural work on the boat but says he is cranking to try and get it done before the weekend.

The weather is looking very sailable and very pleasant. Windy.com now predicts 3-7kts NE-SE midday Saturday and 5-10 E-SE midday Sunday. Temps in the low 70's with no rain in the forecast.

I spend the winter dreaming about sailing in these conditions.

The CHESSS cruise to St. Michael's is coming together. At this point Mike and Monica Gould are coming from Occohanc Creek, 15 miles south of Onancock, VA in their Allied Princess 36. This is a big trip compared to mine from Annapolis. They just did the Down the Bay Race (and came in second for the CHESSS class) so they are not put off by distance.

Tom Kiely is also planning to come in his Bristol Channel Cutter, so we have some interesting boats.

The current plan is to anchor SE of "G3", the entrance buoy to St. Michaels. My boat, Pearson 30 "Old Blue" is white with a Navy blue boom cover. I'd like to keep in touch with anyone who comes in case weather changes our plans so please send me an email or text.

This thread is to help with planning and communications. If you would like to make the cruise to St. Micheals, please register using the event calendar. You're welcome to email or call me if you have any questions that you don't want to post. My contact info is on the registration page.

It's fun to keep track of fellow CHESSS sailors on these cruises but the VHF is not great for this on a busy summer weekend. Rather than making a lot of phone calls I'd like to try keeping in touch while underway with a group text thread. Any other ideas are welcome!

This should be a lot of fun, hope you can make it.
