We currently have an Asymmetric Spinnaker using a Spinnaker Pole. To jibe Symmetric Spinnakers you fly the kite while you move the pole to other side. To jibe an Asymmetric on a sprit you invert the sail when you jibe with a choice of inside or outside lines. We have to invert the sail and move the pole to the other side to jibe (all in the same time frame). It can still be done short handed but you have to plan it out, do it in several steps (not sailing optimum while you step through these) and have nobody near you when you do it.
We are looking at 4 options:
1. Custom built Fixed Sprit (having issues finding local resources that can do the job)
2. In-Hull retractable Bow Sprit (Original boat Manufacturer can provide a kit, just need someone local to cut the hole, glue it in place, and adjust interior a bit to except pole when retracted)
3. Deck Mounted Sprit (at this time leaning towards a Selden but there are other manufactures as well)
4. Trogear A frame bow sprit (looks to be the easiest to install and least expensive)
Does anyone have any experience with custom Carbon Fiber work and can recommend an outfit? I have found outfits overseas and in New England.
Does anyone have any experience with Trogear set up? Are they holding up?
I would probably add a Code Zero type sail to inventory and will need a bobstay. Anyone have experience in setting up a bobstay, and setting it up to retract if I go with either In-Hull Retractable or deck mounted sprit.
